Installing apps and themes on blackberry can be done in 3 ways: either from the app world, OTA (over the air) or offline. Some apps are not on the app world, so they’re being supplied OTA. Some are offered offline in compressed formats (rar or zip).
If you downloaded an app / theme in rar format, installation can be done in two ways. It depends on which installation file you have in the archive.
If you have alx, follow these steps below to install:
1- Extract the contents of the archive to a specific directory
2- Open Blackberry Desktop Manager,
3- Click Applications tab,
4- On the top right side of the screen, click import,
5- Navigate to the directory you extracted the contents of the archive to,
6- Select the alx file,
7- Go ahead and install.
The Blackberry Desktop Software reads the information in the alx file and gathers all required cod files in the directory.
If you have jad instead of alx in the archive, follow these steps:
- Extract the contents of the archive to a specific directory in your media card. You can learn how to open rar archives on blackberry here .
- With the file manager, navigate to the location of the contents,
- Select the jad file,
- You’ll see a Download or Cancel option. Select download. When you select Download in this case, it won’t download anything from the internet, but import the cod files from the folder.
